Other Recognized Orders of
St. John
The Chivalric Alliance of Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem, customarily known as the Alliance, is made up of the four mutually recognized non-Catholic Orders in Europe. The four Orders in the Alliance are:
- Die Balley Brandenburg des ritterlichen Ordens Sankt Johannis vom Spital zu Jerusalem, the German Johanniter Order, limited to members of the Lutheran and Reformed Churches.
- The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, www.orderofstjohn.org.
- The Johanniter Orde in Nederland, the Dutch Johanniter Order, exclusively Protestant.
- The Johanniterorden I Sverige, the Swedish Johanniter Order, exclusively Protestant.
Additionally, there are four semi-autonomous Commanderies of the German Order, part of the Bailiwick of Brandenburg. These are:
- Johanniter Ridderskap I Finland.
- The Association des Chevaliers de St. Jean, Lange de France.
- The Genossenschaft der Johanniterritter in der Schweiz.
- The Johannitarend Magyar Tagozata.
The Orders in the Alliance have signed a series of cooperation agreements with the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Malta, in which membership is exclusively RomanCatholic. The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Malta is not a member of the Alliance.
